Becky's Dive Log

6/17/05 - Dive #1

My first open water dive! I got 'rammed' (bit) by a few fish, but the 7mm suit I was wearing kept it from hurting. I was overweighted...I kept feeling like I was dragging on the bottom. It was a long dive with lots of swimming. We saw the submerged VW bug, the bus and the boat. It was alot of fun, but tiring too.
Skills: recover and clear regulator, clear mask

6/17/05 - Dive 2

My legs really got a workout this weekend. Besides having to carry our gear back and forth from the camp site to the shore, we did a ton of swimming. It showed during this dive. I buddied with Meagan for her 'out of air' ascent fine, but when it came to me, I was tired and had trouble keeping my kicks straight. Our entry though, was made from the low platform. I was nervous at first, but determined. I managed to do the entry and it was actually fun. I still don't think I'm ready to jump out a plane though.
Skills: low platform entry, share air ascent

6/17/05 - Dive 3

This was a short dive, thankfully. I realized just how much I need to work on being in diving shape after this day. Our surface interval must have helped though, because I got my kicks under control and did my emergency swimming ascent with no problems. I had a minor nosebleed at the end of this dive.
Skills: emergency swimming ascent

6/18/05 - Dive 4

Good thing was I rested. We swam all over the shallower parts of the quarry. We saw the bug, the bus, the crusher and the boat again as well as manuvering through large cement pipe things that were down there. And, yes, I do believe that large cement pipe things is the techincal term. We spent about 15 minutes of this dive on the surface adjusting our weight. I also had another minor nosebleed at the end of this dive.
Skills: high platform entry

6/18/05 - Dive 5

Last dive of the weekend. We went out to the underwater platform first to do our skill test, then swam around some more. This was the first dive that I really felt good about things. I wasn't dragging on the bottom and Royce (our divemaster) didn't have to drag me back from an uncontrolled rocket to the surface (like he did on my first attempt to control my bouyancy). I really felt like I was hovering, suspended...like you are supposed to. It was great. I can't wait for the next dive.
Skills: low platform entry, remove mask for one minute, replace mask and clear
